Two Irish singers got their song to No.1 on iTunes by raffling a bale of silage as a prize for buying the single

One lucky winner will be receiving a bale of hay, silage or straw in the coming weeks.

IF YOU HAVEN’T heard of The 2 Johnnies, they’re a comedy duo from Tipperary who sing, do sketches and run a pretty successful podcast. They have 165,000 followers on Twitter and an Instagram following of 54,000.

Yesterday, they released a music video for their new single The Silage Song, and within a few hours it was watched 20,000 times on YouTube.

The Silage Song details some of the struggles farmers have faced because of the extreme weather conditions we’ve witnessed across the country this year.

To help promote the new single, the pair of Johnnies took to their Instagram story last night and said:

Well! The silage song is gone into the charts now so we’re running a competition. If you download it, take a screenshot, send it to us with your name and address. Straw, hay or silage. We will deliver the bale of your choice to one lucky winner.

This isn’t a joke either. This is a genuine competition. We will hand deliver a bale of straw, hay, silage, whatever you want to your house. All you’ve got to do is just screenshot the proof that you’ve bought the single and you’re in the draw lads. It could be you.

And sure enough, it worked. The Silage Song shot straight to No. 1 on Ireland’s iTunes store a few hours later.

Surely this is the most Irish marketing technique ever used.
